Are you a home educator interested in guided tours for your child?

Dive deeper into your child’s education of the natural world, whilst meeting other home educated students! 

Our National Curriculum led tours will lead you through our aquarium with a tour guide and an exclusive fish feeding experience.

Each month we host one of our tours on a different subject to cater to a range of topics and learning levels.

These tours change on a rolling monthly basis. Our home educator tours take place on the last Wednesday of the month during term time. All tours start at 2pm and last for one hour.

Subjects

Under the Sea is suitable for key stage 1 learning levels and above.

Save our Seas and Plants & Fish rotate between key stage 2 and key stage 3 learning levels alternately.

All ages are welcome on these tours, this is just the recommended learning level.

Under the Sea
Under the Sea is a guided tour offering an introduction to a wide range of aquatic animals and geographical habitats, including coastlines, oceans, rivers, and coral reefs. We also focus on animal diets, behaviour, and ecology along the way. The tour includes an exclusive fish feeding experience and a workshop on “Amazing Adaptations” to encourage the children to connect with the natural world.

This tour is aimed at Key Stage 1 age students and above.

Save our Seas
Save our Seas is a guided tour aiming to encourage children to connect with the natural world by observing aquatic creatures up close. The tour includes the discussion of human impacts on different marine environments, including mangrove forests, rainforests, and the open ocean. Furthermore, what conservation work is being done to protect these habitats and the species which inhabit them.

The tour includes an exclusive fish feeding experience and a workshop on “Coral Reefs and Climate Change” to encourage the children to connect with the natural world.

This tour can be catered for key stage 2 or 3 learning levels and changes on an alternating basis.

Plants and Fish

As well as learning about our fantastic fish, in this guided tour your students will branch out (pun slightly intended) into the world of plant life and fish habitats.

Your class can explore our Urban Jungle as our tour guides dive into the subject of rainforests, photosynthesis, plant anatomy and how fish live, grow, and interact with their environment. This experience allows your students to be surrounded by different ecosystems as they learn about them, including native UK waters, the ocean floor, the amazon river and colourful coral reefs.

The tour includes an exclusive fish feeding experience and a “Rainforest Detective” workshop on “Plant Power” to encourage the children to connect with the natural world.

This tour can be catered for key stage 2 or 3 learning levels and changes on an alternating basis.

Tickets

All tickets – £8.50 (Parents and/or guardians are required to purchase a ticket with the junior they will be accompanying)

Maximum capacity for tours – 30 people. Home educator tours are on the last Wednesday of every month in term time.

Members – Members may come to our Home Educator tours for free. You will be required to book a members ticket and show your membership card when you arrive. If you are bringing someone else with you who is not a member, that person will need to pay the full £8.50 ticket.

Carers – A 1:1 registered carer accompanying a paying disabled visitor, with proof of carer status, is admitted free of charge.

Proof of carer status: Access card displaying a +1, Carer’s Allowance Letter, a letter from GP or Consultant (dated within the last 12 months) confirming the need for a full time carer.

Customers with an access card without a +1 are not entitled to a free carer.

Visitors using a wheelchair are entitled to a free carer ticket to support their visit around the aquarium.

Please note tickets are non-refundable, non-exchangeable, and only valid on the selected date. 

Please arrive 10 – 15 minutes before your tour.

This ticket is valid for a tour only and does not include free roaming of the aquarium.

If you would like to visit the aquarium home by yourself, home educators are able to come in under our Education Rate. Please note, these standard day tickets do not include entry to the home educator tours.
